Now in Changi
Just arrived in Changi Airport, Singapore. It’s quite humid — even inside. Thank goodness I don’t have to go outside! :-P
The airport is huge! Think multiple terminals and multiple levels. There are trains between them. And inside each terminal are horizontal “escalators” which transport lazy (or tired) people like me… :)
Have fun everyone. I shall be in Beijing next!

hey lucas,
just having a bit of a read… upwards, so i haven’t read your later stuff yet. i found out though, those things are called movelators, pronouncing the ‘e’ as in mov-eh-late-ors. i was so excited when i got told that, i think it’s awesome. i hope you’re having a great time - i’m in england now and it’s heaps of fun, and i stopped in hong kong airport and have this cool photo of all these random escalators - they’re not organised like in melbourne. some were going up 2 levels, some 1, and all different directions, like some weird maze. anyhow, it was cool. :)

Later while at Changi, I discovered they called them “travelators”. Perhaps there isn’t a standard naming convention for these things as yet.
Norman Foster (and partners) designed the new airport at HK. The old one used to be in the middle of the city — quite scary when landing and taking off, as one would be among the skyscrapers.

Personally, I call them “walk-a-laters”, seeing everyone in Hong Kong walk across them (or even dash across them), zooming past those people not on them (…get it? “see you later”, “walk-a-laters”?)

hmm, interesting. yes, it makes sense that they haven’t named them… and travelators sounds more professional than movelators, but i still like the latter best :)
