Play It Safe, Or Game Over
The metaphor used for the safety video is that of the video game. However, the key point stressed is that in reality (as opposed to a video game), a person has only one life.
A series of potentially perilous situations are presented, each situation being like that of a particular well known retro video game.
Instead of being a direct emulation of the particular video game, each depiction would instead be inspired by elements of the city and RMIT student life and by the visual style and gameplay of that game.
The video should be somewhat funny, with the depiction and the concept being amusing to students since they are very familiar with video games. However, the humour ends with a simple yet strong warning:
“You only have one life: Play it safe or game over.”
This concept won the RMIT student safety video competition in 2009.
